Episode 10 - The corona virus edition

Hosted by Unnur Andrea Einarsdóttir

In this 10th edition of Girl Monster radio (corona special), guest host Unnur Andrea Einarsdóttir makes a zoom call from Norway to Berlin, where she has a lengthy and in-depth conversation with Icelandic musician Salka Valsdóttir. Salka is a rapper, producer and sound engineer that began her career in an all female rap group named Reykjavíkurdætur (daughters of Reykjavík). The band was a big success in Iceland, but we look into some of the darker sides and challenges that come with being a female voice in an otherwise male saturated hip hop scene. We also discuss her work as a music producer and how her search for artistic autonomy and being in control of sound can open up possibilities, both creative and personal. We play some tracks from Reykjavíkurdætur and new material from musical duo Cyber, comprised of Salka and Jóhanna Rakel Jónasdóttir. Track lists: 1. Hæpið - Reykjavíkurdætur, 2. Sweets - Reykjavíkurdætur, 3. Starry night - CYBER, 4. Hold - CYBER. Photo: Kristine Wathne of Unnur
